LOCATIONS

First Floor

Cells

The cells are very plain, with mostly undecorated metal walls and tile floors. There's a small attached bathroom with a shower included, and on each side of the room along with the beds, there's also a writing desk, a nightstand and lamp by the bed, and a trunk in which to store your things. In rooms containing three beds, this makes things extremely crowded. You can fit the trunk underneath the bed, but otherwise, you're just gonna have to deal. The three bed cells contain a single bed and a bunk bed while the two bed cells have one bunk bed.

The single decoration present in these rooms is a poster hung up by each of the beds. No, there sure isn't anything behind it.

The doors are heavy steel, but they lock from the inside and you've got the key - apparently this isn't exactly a high-security prison. At least they're thick enough that they seem to muffle all sounds from outside.

Mess Hall

The mess hall rather resembles a school cafeteria. There's two long tables with attached stools, and the lights overhead are bright and fluorescent. Even with twenty-five people, the room has far more than enough room for everyone.

On the wall it shares with the kitchen, there is a long serving line, with a pile of thin metal trays at one end and a window at the other. It's got a metal screen that can slide up and down - most of the time it's open, but from 11:00 a.m. to noon and 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., it's closed. You can't get it open.

Kitchen

This kitchen is fairly plain. All the appliances are in good condition, but the food is very basic fare of middling quality. In addition, all the dishes and cutlery are very cheap, and there's a lot of metal trays piled up for some reason.

Most of the time, the kitchen is accessible. However, it is locked from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for lunch service and 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. for dinner. It is also inaccessible during night hours.

Laundry

Here you can find real, actual washers and dryers! There's even instructions for their use pinned up on the wall, as well as a warning that laundry is a privilege, so please don't flood the place. Also, if you leave your things unattended, they might be stolen.

Counselor's Office

You can come here to speak to the Counselor during office hours. Otherwise, the door is locked.

Storage

A storage closet! There are cleaning supplies, extra pillows and blankets, and other necessaries readily available. A notable exception: there are no tools, or anything else that could be obviously weaponized, and no matches or other ways to instantly start a fire. Looks like a little creativity is in order.

Library

For a prison library, this one is fairly large. There's a focus on nonfiction, including textbooks on various subjects, and the desks littered around the room imply that the room's also meant for study. Don't worry, though, there's still a smallish fiction section.

Second Floor

Room of Fire

A fairly large incinerator has been installed along the back of this room. It takes a little while to work its way up to its full heat, and has a tendency to shoot off sparks and embers alike as it does, but once it gets there it is very hot. Hot enough to burn just about anything but bone or metal, probably. You should be careful not to stand too close while the door is open, without maybe some protective gear.

Is there protective gear in the room? LOL NO

Around the rest of the room, some open burners have been scattered. These are basically always on - you can turn them off, but they always seem to trip back on again later - so try not to burn yourself. As a result of all this constant open flame, the room gets pretty warm. Interestingly, none of these machines seems quite like they belong here at all. The burners look a little cobbled together, and there are some marks on the floor that seem to indicate that the incinerator was dragged in recently, and possibly some other things were dragged out. What a renovation, huh?

Arts and Crafts Room

A complete fire hazard, given the circumstances, this room contains lots of construction paper, canvas, paint, yarn, glue, glitter, and basically anything else you could want for an arts and crafts project! There's even a set of small kilns for setting pottery. These seem to be a lot safer, and are extremely unlikely to produce any open flame. Several tables and a couple pottery wheels provide ample space in which to get to work. Maybe some art therapy can help you murderers calm the fuck down!

Infirmary

Oh, thank god. Fourtinbras was apparently telling the truth about an infirmary being nearby. This room has medical equipment and drugs, enough to handle whatever you might need treated (including severe burns, maybe?). A few IV setups and a small fridge full of blood bags of various types and, apparently, species, means that you can even treat some more severe cases. Only if you know how, though; there don't seem to be any textbooks on how to use this stuff lying around. At least the drugs all have instructional text on the bottles?

There's only four beds set up here, not quite enough for everyone, but hopefully you won't need any more than that? This being a prison and all, each cot comes with a set of restraints, to be used only if necessary.

Exercise Yard

Another prediction fulfilled, this is a full outdoor exercise yard! "Outdoors" being a relative word, of course; the yard is covered by a clear dome, allowing the fullest view yet of the stars outside the prison station. The dome is very tough, just in case any idiot tries to break it.

The yard itself is mostly just an open space. There is a track for running, a basketball court, and in one corner, a jumbled and twisted pile of sharp metal bars. It was probably some kind of exercise equipment at one point in its life, but now it's just a danger zone. Go find somewhere else to do your pull-ups. Luckily, the sports equipment racks are more intact, so you've got sports balls and other sports things for free use! There's even some padding that you can wear if you, say, start some kind of illegal fight club out here, though sadly none that you can put down on the ground to cushion your falls.

Third Floor

Space License Plate Factory

This building was once a real prison, and you can definitely tell that here. Most of the room is taken up by a large press, into which thin metal rectangles can be inserted. There’s several boxes’ worth of these - they aren’t sharp enough on the edges to do any damage, before you crazy kids ask. Once one is inside, you can enter the letters on a control panel and the machine will make your Space License Plate (™)! The default setting just enters random letters and numbers, but you can change it to say whatever you want. There’s quite a few keyboard options, most of them being alien scripts that you don’t recognize.

The machine itself has several safety features, but a person could probably still get pressed by it if they had help and were particularly determined. But why would anyone do that?

Solitary Cells

Unlike the cells you live in, these two rooms have heavy metal doors with a deadbolt mechanism on the outside only. There’s a smaller slit on the bottom, with a door that can also be fastened shut from the outside, that might allow someone to pass food or other objects inside.

The interior is completely windowless, with floors and walls all covered in a soft padding. It’s clean and looks quite new; the inside of the doors, though, appear to have taken some damage in their time. Still, they’re holding up well. It would be nigh impossible to get out of here, should you somehow end up locked inside.

Greenhouse

This room’s two exterior walls are clear glass, like the dome over the exercise yard. Above, there’s an array of high-powered lights that mimic sunlight, in order to keep the plants healthy. It’s not exactly garden-like in here; the plants are in planters kept in neat rows, and the floor below is just tile, with drains placed at regular intervals to help with clean-up. Lots of dirt and water in here, after all.

There’s a cabinet to one side that contains gardening supplies, and the plants here are in pretty decent shape right now. There’s flowers, vegetables, and herbs - some of them probably aren’t recognizable, but you’ll probably also know some of it.
